Spa heaven…

Last Tuesday I went to a spa day with my friend for her birthday treat.

We left home early to get to the Rowhill Grange Hotel in Wilmington just after 9am for our day of relaxation, on arrival we was taken through for tea & coffee with a morning snack whilst they placed our order for the included lunch and then took us on a tour of the spa facilities that we had use of until 3pm that afternoon.

It was perfect as the weather outside wasn’t, rain had been forecast for most of the day which had already started on our way there.

Rowhill Grange is a beautiful hotel and I had been here before many years ago for a wedding reception and had heard about the spa and how great the facilities were. So it was great to finally get to experience it for myself. The setting of the Rowhill Grange is in the beautiful grounds in Wilmington near Dartford and as you drive through the winding driveway you see beautiful gardens and ponds with ducks just walking around without a care in the world.

The spa was beautiful and with no more than half a dozen people allowed in at one time, we wanted to make use of all the facilities including sauna, steam room, hydro pool, jacuzzi and swimming pool. We decided against the energetic use of the gym, but we could have used these facilities too.

This spa very much reminded me of the beautiful spa on board the Arcadia as she has a hydro pool available with only a limited amount of persons allowed at any one time. For a small supplement we could use the hydro pool, jacuzzi and hot stone beds for as long as we wanted for the day. Pure relaxation, especially when winding down after a packed out cruise and sailing back towards Southampton.

So after a hard morning of exploring the spa, we then went for a very healthy lunch in our complimentary robes and enjoyed a 2 course meal before heading back for a few more hours.

After we had decided we was too wrinkly to continue and our pores well and truly cleaned, our skin  rejuvenated and our bodies massaged from the jets from the jacuzzi and hydro pool, we headed off to the changing rooms to get ready to depart. The changing rooms was well equipped with lovely showers and the necessary shampoos and conditioners, hair dryers and even GHD hair straighteners was on hand to use. Perfect.

That evening I was very relaxed and this got me thinking about facilities on the cruise ship that maybe we use but would never actually use something similar when not on a cruise ship..

Going to a spa is not something I have normally done before on land, I always try to make use of the spa facilities onboard the cruise ships I have travelled on, even if it is just for a treatment.  It’s funny how I am happy to always pay for a treatment or to use the facilities of the spa on a ship but would not normally consider this option when I am at home.

What about you, what’s the one thing you always treat yourself to on a cruise but not necessary when you are at home? I’d love to know.

  1. Dear ms Gardener, it’s so nice of you to share these precious moments with the fans of cruising! 😉

I’ve never tried it, but amany say Spa on cruise ships is kinda overrated – huge prices, and “just a spa” experience. However, it’s an iron fact that happiness is the most personal experience in this world – it depends on nothing (when its time comes) and sharing it doesn’t change anything at all!

I guess when money is not an issue – what the heck, let’s spa at sea, huh? LOL
