A Truly British Affair…

When most people think of planning a cruise for their main holiday, you would expect them to choose somewhere exotic like the Caribbean Islands, the Far East or the Mediterranean, maybe somewhere a bit different and scenic like Alaska, the Panama Canal, the Norwegian Fjords or the Baltic Capitals.  The list for cruise destinations nowadays is endless.

But what about our Great Britain?

More cruise companies are now offering the fabulous British Isles as a summer cruise option.     I have to admit, it wouldn’t have been my first choice for a summer holiday. However, now looking at the itineraries and where the ships dock, I realise I haven’t been to hardly anywhere in the UK to be able to dismiss this as a cruise option. Most of the ports of calls include some pretty spectacular places such as the Orkney Islands, Guernsey, Cork, Edinburgh.

Admittedly, they are mostly Irish or Scottish locations with a few English ports, but these have been chosen for a specific reason, be it for the outstanding beautiful locations like the Lochs and various country estates and castles, or the richness of the history such as Belfast or Liverpool.

I think a cruise around our Great Britain is an ideal way to travel in luxury to see places that may not be seen otherwise by us native Brits. The cost of transportation today in the UK for trains, planes, buses and fuel for the car are astronomical. So it makes sense that if you want to see more of OUR beautiful Islands to do it on a cruise. One price, once to unpack and enjoy the journey without delays, traffic jams and stress. Visiting some of the most beautiful parts the British Isles have to offer without have to pay an extortionate hotel and food bill. Enjoy your day on shore and then back to the comfort of the ship with the excellent food and staff awaiting you. No exchange rates or spare currency to try and get rid of.

OK, so the weather might not be reliable and you possibly may not be able to sit in your bathing costume basking in the sun, but these ships offer so much more for you to enjoy. The value for money is very similar to booking a 2 week holiday in the UK anyway, but at least you are not stuck in one location.  It certainly is food for thought, especially if you are looking for something a bit different without compromising on stunning locations, accommodation quality and fantastic food.

With departures from various UK ports and a range of ships to suit everyone’s needs, isn’t it time to start a love affair with Britain and all she has to offer again?
