The Magic of Disney!

Last Sunday I was lucky enough to spend the day with my colleague Ava on the amazing Disney Magic whilst it was in Dover!

Launched in 1998, the ship has 11 public decks and can accommodate 2,700 passengers in 875 staterooms. The ship is decorated in a charming Art Deco style, I was really impressed by how subtle and charming the interior of the ship is, I was expecting it to be loud in your face inescapable Disney but how wrong I was… here are some of my favourite bits from the day!

The Atrium is bright and spacious with subtle references to Disney. Glass lifts are available here too. Just on the left up the stairs is the entrance to Lumieres Restaurant where we ate although another entrance is just around the corner too.

Large Theatre with shows including Tangled: The Musical which follows the daring adventures of Rapunzel as she escapes her tower.

Inside Disney’s Oceaneer Club, you will find Andy’s Room from the Toy Story films including a slide. There is also a Marvel Super Hero Academy, it was fun to watch some of the travel agents morph into Iron Man.

While the kids are off having the times of their lives, Guests 18 years of age and older can escape to the privacy and fun of various adult-only locations and experiences—including massages at the fantastic Senses Spa & Salon, intimate fine dining inside Palo pictured below, late-night dancing at stylish Fathoms or even live piano music at Keys.

The pool areas are great fun too, you have the AquaLab and Goofy’s Pool, hot tubs, adult only Quiet Cove Pool and the AquaDunk – the exciting drop-out water-slide located high atop the Forward Funnel.

I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the staterooms are, they are good sizes with plenty of storage space (especially under the beds). Most cabins can accommodate up to 5 guests with certain suites accommodating up to 7 guests. I was particularly impressed by the Verandah Staterooms.

Other highlights on the Disney Magic include:

Marvel Day at Sea – Join some of Marvel’s mightiest heroes for a super day-long celebration available on select cruises

Animator’s Palate – Be drawn into the magic of Disney animation at this restaurant that serves up a unique dinner show starring Disney characters

Keys – Strike a chord at this intimate, adults-only nightclub inspired by the swanky piano bars of Hollywood’s glamourous Golden Age

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – Step inside this enchanted beauty salon that offers magical, head-to-toe makeovers for young princesses, pirates and knights

Deck Parties – Kick up your heels, clap your hands and celebrate at open-air music and dance extravaganzas starring Disney Characters including Mickey’s Sail-A-Wave Party and Pirate Night

Character Greetings – Meet and Greet some of your favourite Disney Characters as autograph sessions, kids club and during surprise encounters throughout the cruise

Dining – astonishing dinner show celebrating Disney storytelling at Animator’s Palate, American and French fare at Lumiere’s and a dining adventure with a fabulous fairytale twist at Rapunzel’s Royal Table. You also have the buffet at Cabana’s, Duck-In Diner and Pinocchio’s Pizza and even complimentary 24 hour in room dining.

In summary, a Disney Cruise is a fantastic and fun experience for all ages. It was surprising how many adults were travelling without children and I would have no hesitation in recommending Disney.
