Cruise Reviews
Scandinavian style
We travelled on Viking Sky around Italy, we were not holding our much hope of quality prior to travelling but were pleasantly surprised.
The ships decor was modern and quiet, no glitz, just quality and typically scandi style. Comfortable chairs, quiet blue and cream tones and wooden floors.
The staff were exceptional, helpful and efficient without the over bearing fuss that some cruise ships make. They remembered names and preferences very quickly and always had time for a quick chat.
The ship was quiet, no excessive announcements, no constant mailing to your room for sales in the shops and no kids running about!
Food was of good quality and variety but with no fixed seating there were sometimes delays at peak times in seating. However this was treated competently on most days with a drinks service in the waiting area. Drinks are included in the price at lunch and dinner but it is worthwhile taking the drinks package so that all drinks are no charge and the choice of wine was increased. There were no extras like canaps, pillow chocolates, fruit in rooms, fresh flowers in rooms but to be honest we didn't need them.
Internet access was available without charge 24/7, and the speed was better than most ships that charge and restrict. There were excellent interactive TVs with on screen billing, films, documentaries and broadcasts of port information.
Each port had a basic tour without charge and these were good for navigating around and giving you a starting point to explore yourself.
Heavily patronised by Americans it had a good multinational feel.Entertainment was typical of this size of ship, there were two historians on board, maybe one would have been enough making way for something different.
All in all an excellent cruise, great ports and nothing to complain about.
