We had booked Viking Sky for a lovely Christmas break leaving on 23rd December 2018 We were transported via Lufhansa via Frankfurt and we had a window of approx an hour to catch a connecting flight to take us on to Barcelona. However because our flight left 20 minutes late and because we arrived in a different terminal to that which we needed for outbound journey we did not realise that it was an absolute mission impossible. The distance between two terminals took us around 15 minutes to run like mad - thinking we would catch it. Little did we realise we had to go through security again. We joined a large queue to show our passport before we had to go through security process all over again. We arrived at the gate absolutely breathless only to see the plane leaving. We then went to Information desk to get another connecting flight - to be informed the next flight was 21.00 hours. - seven hours later. Fortunately we were with other passengers who had access to an app and said that there was actually a flight leaving at 16.00 hours. We went back to the desk only to be told we would have to go on stand by as flight was full. We found them completely unhelpful. We were lucky enough to get on this flight and arrived on board at around 19.00 hours. We found the breakfasts on board pretty good. Plenty of choice and food hot. Restaurant food at lunch times we found fairly limited. Carvery meats were too rare for us and there was a limited range of food. My wife often had soup and cheese and crackers at lunch time but found the soups were too salty for her taste. Ice creams were however delicious. We had afternoon tea on two occasions. Both times drinks were cold. We spoke to our waiter and he apologised and said that the hot water which was in vacuum flasks had been sitting there over an hour prior to the event. The cakes were boring - usually one macaroon a small square of sponge and a few dried up sandwiches with hardly any filling. We did not go to any more afternoon teas and just went to coffee bar on deck 7. We found the food in Manfrfedis choices were extremely good. However food in restaurant we found disappointing. We spoke to several fellow passengers and they had chosen to eat in World cafe upstairs as they found the restaurant slow service and disappointing menus. We booked trips in each destination and found them all extremely well organised and interesting. We visited Bacecelona Marseille Monaco and Livorno and finishing in Rome We found on board shopping very limited. We struggled to spend our on board credit actually and had to buy some perfumes that we normally wouldnt have bought. So few brands that we recognised. Some of the evening entertainments were quite good. The singers were extremely good and professional. However compared to other cruises we found this side of the voyage quite limited. Very little to do throughout the sea days apart from buying spa treatments. However the ship itself was immaculately clean and shiny with all public areas regularly cleaned. However my husband likes to sit and read a book and found all the seating extremely uncomfortable. He felt like he was in an Ikea warehouse. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful at all times. No complaints about them - they were amazing. We were fairly trepidatious about our homeward journey. Yet again it did happen. On arrival at Frankfurt we had same problem we had to run all the way back to another terminal up several flights of stairs as the lifts were so busy. We must have run for a mile and half however this time we arrived in time to join the queue for our flight to Manchester. We were absolutely stressed out and exhausted when we got to our seats. We usually cruise with Oceania and compared to that this was a total disappointment and it is unlikely that we will travel with Viking again. We always go cruise only and arrange our own flights. We only did this as we were travelling with family - never again would we be in this position.
