Cruise Elements:

Quality of Food:
We ate mostly at the World Cafe but the best meals were when we visited the speciality restaurants Manfredi's and Chef's Table. World Cafe was good every night with lots of variety apart from on Indian buffet night where if you didn't like Indian food you had very little choice.
Entertainment:
The Viking Vocalists were superb - loved all of their shows, ABBA, Behind the Pen and The Beatles. We also loved the solo shows, Divas through the Decades by Beth and Beyond the Sea by Hannah.
Shore Excursions:
We skipped the included excursions as we read they were basically putting you in a bus for a trip around the island and leaving you at a beach. We did one optional excursion, the Atlantis Submarine in Barbados, which was a great experience. We did two independent excursions, both to go whale watching in St Lucia and Dominica - St Lucia was poor but Dominica was brilliant and we saw six whales.
Staff:
Hard to single out an individual member of staff as they were all great and very efficient from the staff who serviced the rooms, the bar staff and waiters through to the security team welcoming you on and off the ship at each port.
Cabins:
Difficult to fault the room - great size, great facilities. The only very small niggle was that there was no tea in the room and when we asked the steward he just said to order room service, but fortunately we had brought some tea bags along anyway just in case!
This was our first cruise and we did not know what to expect, but the Viking Sea was a wonderful experience. Our cabin was a Deluxe Veranda which is almost identical to the lowest category (mainly just a higher floor), but was plenty big enough and was beautifully presented. Very comfortable large bed, stunning shower room, lounge area with a sofa and coffee table and a nice balcony from which we watched the ship arriving and departing from most of the ports (as well as having included room service breakfast a couple of times). The ship is very spacious throughout with just 930 passengers in a ship large enough for twice that, so never felt crowded and always easy to find seats. Lovely public areas including the Explorers' Lounge at the bow of the ship, the Wintergarden where you can have afternoon tea, the pool deck through to the quiet areas on Deck 1 for a coffee and a cookie. We ate most of the time in the World Cafe, an informal buffet dining restaurant with usually a great choice of meals. We were lucky to secure two meals in the speciality Italian restaurant, Manfredis, which were delicious, huge and very filling! We also ate at the Chef's Table once, a superb five course tasting menu with paired wines. We really enjoyed the entertainment on board, especially the four Viking Vocalists who put on three main shows over the 10 day cruise together with solo performances from two of them. Four young, energetic and talented performers who gave their all. We also enjoyed the Viking band who supported them and the two Filipino lounge singers who were lively if not quite as good as the other singers. Other entertainment around the ship included a guitarist, a pianist and a classical duo and all were very good when you came across them. There were two "party nights" (to the extent you can have them with most of the guests in their 70s), one Dancing under the Stars and one a party for St Patrick's Day. One of the best things about this ship was the service. Our rooms and all public areas were kept spotless, the bar and waiting staff were attentive and best of all, every Viking crew member we passed greeted us in a warm and genuine way. We had an absolutely wonderful time and look forward to doing our next cruise, but this will take a lot of beating!
