Great way to spend Christmas
I had no perceived idea about what to expect however the level of luxury, attention to detail and service were wonderful. Not a good idea if you are on a diet and weak willed. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were well cooked, tasty and with great wines. As drinks were included I was surprised to find my favourite gin was included and not considered at an extra cost for prime spirits. My cabin was almost below the waterline but my fear of claustrophobia did not eventuate. The cabin had all the facilities you could want in a Five Star Hotel, bathrobes, luxury towels, wonderful L'Occitaine soaps, shampoo and shower gel. The escorted tours, also included in the cost, were very informative and I managed to give one very good guide a tip not to say 'in former times', but in the past or before etc. The reason I travelled was to join my best from Australia who was with his wife and lovely daughter. I still don't know why but the head Chef took a shine to his daughter and every dinner time he appeared at our table knelt beside her and asked what she wanted for dinner. Try that for personal service... Will I cruise again on Uniworld I think so.... wouldn't you? The crew were totally professional that was in every area and aspect. The reception desk was helpful at all times. The waiters were, with one exception very friendly and totally efficient. The service, food and attention to detail was amazing. You really felt that the service was personal. It was strange for me to be a tourist in Germany where I have been living for 20 years! But I enjoyed the tours. Frankfurt was a bit surreal as I lived in Frankfurt for 15 years so that was strange. But I acted as an exclusive tour guide for my friends. The bad and the ugly were only some of the other passengers. I know you can not select who shouldn't travel but.... There was one man (was it a man?) who had really short shorts for breakfast, it nearly put me of my breakfast on several mornings. There was a family who we were convinced would make perfect serial killers, very creepy. Then a 150 Kgs Australian guy who only had a selection of shorts. Oh, for Christmas evening and the final dinner he did come up with a a pair of old jogging trousers. So no obvious dress code was enforced! So, still very impressed and I never got to dance. I did offer to hold an impromptu Boogie Woogie taster course but nothing happened. I'm not sure I was taken seriously. As we were in Frankfurt for a full day I tried to contact a dance partner to no avail. If I had been able to find her I would have asked her to come in the evening and we could have trotted our stuff. I've dance competition Boogie and she has done show dance Boogie.. Funny, nobody ever danced !!! Will I cruise again on Uniworld I think so.... wouldn't you?
