Review Profile

Times cruised before:
August 2017
Annual/regular holiday

Cruise Elements:

Quality of Food:
we ate in the restaurant for breakfast ,lunch and diner, the food was good quality , breakfast food could do with being hotter as the cooked food was sometimes not as hot as it should have been for a buffet.
the Lady Jazz singer was very good and the opera company also but the other five nights the entertainment was sadly lacking .
Shore Excursions:
all the tours were excellent, the wine tasting at valpolicella with lunch was outstanding
all the staff were very good our restaurant waiter Kaza went out of his way to please
Onboard Activities:
the entertainment in the lounge at night was sadly lacking in ambiance .
Excellent in all expectations
The cruise with Uniworld started in Milan with a two night stay at the hotel Rosa Grand which was excellently placed for all the sights to be seen in Milan, a fantastic tour of Milan and a visit to the cathedral was included , a coach journey to Verona for a walking tour and then onto a winery for a wine tasting and very nice lunch , we then boarded the ship The River Countess at Venice , we were shown to our cabin 303 ,which was excellent the dcor and furnishings are second to none with a very comfortable bed ,with a pillow menu there was plenty of storage space ,and the marble shower room quite spacious for a small ship. The dining room was as the rest of the ship excellently decorated and very comfortable to eat in ,breakfast and lunch were self service buffet ,diner was served to the table with plenty of choice on the menu ,drinks were also free flowing with a good choice of matching wine to the dishes chosen . Although the river cruise was supposed to go up the Po river this was not possible due to low water ,but it did not detract as we still visited Bologna and Padua by coach and had good tours. The river Countess was moored in the Grand Canal and was a fantastic floating hotel with excellent views ,we sailed up to the islands of Burano and Mazzorbo with good tours around the islands with wine tasting and lunches, the tours in Venice were very well organized with fast track to all the venues .no queuing with Uniworld .However the entertainment on the ship was a little lacking except for two nights when an opera company performed and another night a Jazz singer and her group, all of whom were very good indeed ,it was left to a lone pianist playing to an empty lounge , the atmosphere was a little empty in the evenings , this could easily be put right if the cruise director put his mind to it ,as on other river cruises it has been. The service on the ship was very good all the staff were friendly and very helpful with anything you needed , the captain and his officers were all readily approachable and friendly , all in all the cruise was very good and Venice is well worth seeing .
