WE SPOTTED A DANUBE RIVER CRUISE AT AN UNUSUALLY LOW PRICE ON CRUISE.CO.UK, WE BOOKED IT UP THROUGH ANDY LIDDEL. IT WAS WITH RIVER CRUISE LINE, AND ON MS SERENITY, FOR SEVEN DAYS. PICKING UP AT BUDAPEST, AND LEAVING IT AT NURNBURG. THE SHIP, BEARING IN MIND THAT IT IS MUCH CHEAPER THAN THE MAINSTREAM RIVER CRUISERS, WAS VERY GOOD, FOOD WAS EXCELLENT, STAFF WERE GENERALLY VERY GOOD, AND THE CABINS, SPACIOUS, WITH FOLD DOWN BUNKS, AND A FAIR SIZE BATHROOM, WITH AN EXCELLENT SHOWER . THE BUNKS HOWEVER, DID NOT SUIT EVERYBODY, AS THERE WAS A RIDGE ALONG THE EDGE, WHICH LADIES WITH SHORTISH LEGS, FOUND A BIT HARD TO GET OUT OF. WITH THE BUNKS FOLDED UP, THERE WERE TWO RATHER NARROW SEATS, SO IT WAS NOT VERY PRACTICAL TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME IN YOUR CABIN. THERE IS HOWEVER, A LARGE AND COMFORTABLE LOUNGE, AND A GOOD SUPPLY OF COFFEE AND TEA. WE WERE VERY LUCKY WITH THE WEATHER, SEVEN DAYS OF SUNSHINE. THOUGH IT WAS AT TIMES TOO HOT FOR MANY, BUT THE AC ON THE SHIP WAS VERY GOOD. THERE WERE DECENT CHAIRS, DECKCHAIRS AND LOUNGERS ON THE SUN DECK. THERE WAS VERY MODEST EVENING ENTERTAINMENT, NOT AT ALL LIKE A BIG SHIP, BUT OF COURSE FAR LESS PEOPLE. THERE WAS JUST ONE EXCURSION OFFERED AT EACH STOP, AND THEY ALL INVOLVED QUITE A LOT OF WALKING, AND OFTEN TOO MUCH FOR OLDER PASSENGERS. WE DID NOTICE THAT THE MAINSTREAM SHIPS DID THE SAME THING. IN MOST CASES HOWEVER, THE SHIP TIED UP VERY CLOSE TO TOWN CENTRES, AND IT WAS EASY TO DO YOUR OWN THING. NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SHIP OR ON BOARD STAFF, WE DID HAVE PROBLEMS WITH TICKETS AND INFORMATON. WE DID NOT KNOW FOR SURE THAT WE WERE GOING AT ALL UNTIL LESS THAN THREE DAYS BEFORE, WHEN OUR TICKETS ARRIVED BY POST. NO E-MAILS. ANDY WAS CONSTANTLY CHASING THEM, BUT NOT GETTING ANY ANSWERS. WHILE CHATTING TO OTHER PASSENGERS, IT WAS CLEAR THAT WE WERE FAR FROM BEING ALONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. ONE THING THAT COULD BE A PROBLEM, IN WET WEATHER, THERE IS ONLY THE LOUNGE OR YOUR CABIN?
