Voyager To Far East
We have just returned from cruising on Voyager of the Seas from Singapore to Hong Kong visiting Vietnam. Voyager was the first ship we cruised on some fourteen years ago so we were looking forward to seeing her again and renew our fond memories. Lovely ship, still very nice albeit a little tired but that was fine as we were just happy to be aboard again. Nice stateroom, good size with ample space on the balcony. We found the food to be more than adequate and the staff in both MDR and buffet restaurant very helpful The trips organised by the cruise line were very informative and on the whole quite reasonable for the time we were ashore. We were however quite disappointed in the itinerary, particularly on the sea days. There were no seminars other than those run by RCCL which could be turned into a selling opportunity. The ice show was probably the biggest disappointment to me particularly. The theme of the show was based on tarot cards and frankly, this is just not to everyones taste so I cannot understand why it was thought to be a good idea but in any case, I watched and cringed when there were three falls. Not good however, still forgiving. Three days later on a sea day again with very little to do, we went to the ice show. Once again, based on tarot cards and once again three falls. This time I didnt stay although my husband did. I had a good book which I preferred.I would like to think I was just unlucky and there was in fact a variety of shows, but I am not too sure on that point. Surely they wouldnt be so unprofessional as to repeat the same show over and over again, would they ? The entertainment in the theatre was good with the best being four singers called the Barricades. Excellent. Overall, we were rather disappointed with what Voyager was offering. Films were shown outside on the pool deck but at 9PM the temperature had dropped and the night we went up, there was a strong wind. I could see no reason why the theatre could not be utilised during the day for a film as has been successfully done on many other cruises we have been on. I think we have both decided that Royal Caribbean has lost its shine for us. The customer/guest is treated as as cash cow and extras added to inflate the profits. There were a couple of errors in our final bill, to their benefit I would add. I feel disappointed that we are disappointed with RCCL as they were our introduction to cruising which has opened the world for us. Since our first time with Voyager, we have cruised in excess of 25 times some with RCCL some Celebrity and P&O and a few others but I do think RCCL need to address some issues.
