This cruise was starting in Tianjin heading to Singapore. We have cruised with Royal Caribbean before and always enjoyed our cruises. However before we left we joined the Facebook page for the cruise. Maybe this was wrong thing to do as far as our expectations. Very negative about cruises leaving this destination being for the Chinese traveler. Then we thought we would just have to make the most of it. However it was different when we got their as it became apparent that the Chinese people did not really embrace this cruise because it was not returning to China. It was going to Singapore for a minor refit.

We were disappointed with the food on offer as there was hardly any Chinese or Oriental food. The service was poor as they did not know how to serve Europeans. The drinks were not well served at dining for instance. The attention to detail was not as good as usual. However we did raise this on numerous occasions.

It would appear the entertainment was rather last minute.  The best acts were a tribute to INXS and the Beatles from Oz!  It could have been better to be honest but we weren’t really expecting the usual acts you get onboard. We did get free use of the pod which they usually charge for on this cruise hitch was a bonus.  We found the staff at bars were not as friendly as they usually are on board. We had been prepared to tip when we got good service although our tips were paid upfront. The service did not warrant extra tip for sure.

The ports of call were what made the cruise. Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam 2 ports, Hong Kong then Singapore. Disappointed in Hong Kong with the time allowed due to the protesters at the time. We did trips at each port via the Facebook group with other travellers which we thoroughly enjoyed. The only one we took with RC was Hong Kong hop on off bus.

Although this was not the best performance from RC it was a great trip all in. We started off with 4 days in Beijing but we had trouble with our visa on way in. Many on our flight were refused entry depending on previous stamps on their passports they were treated really badly and staff were rude and unhelpful. I will never visit China again although I enjoyed all the sites the country is not friendly to visitors from the UK.
