Pleasure, Leisure and Culture
River cruises are not for everyone but to a host of more mature people they are becoming very popular and a way to see some of the world in a relaxed and very friendly way. We travelled on the Rhone in France from Lyon to Avignon on Swiss Corona and and from start to finish this cruise was faultless. We had travelled previously on a more expensive trip and wondered if the difference in price would spoil our holiday. We were so wrong. Our cabin was spacious, we did have a suite, and spotlessly clean. The restaurant was very good, the five course fare being beautifully presented and actually tasting good as well. There may not have been as many choices as on our previous cruise but there was something for everyone, including local specialities such as snails and frogs legs. Drinks were served in the bar every night with free canapés and the staff always had a smile and time for a quick banter. There was an excellent pianist in the bar/lounge after dinner and perhaps some people would want more, but for us it was all about talking to the many different and interesting people who shared our cruise. All the excursions were included, well organised without any pressure and catered for everyone from the most agile to the least mobile and covering most interests. We did some wine tasting, visited numerous towns en route, drove to the Ardeche Gorge and the Pont du Gard, most of these trips only covering half a day and therefore leaving enough time to relax onboard on the sun deck watching the world go by. In fact, there was nothing to complain about (our friends would be amazed at that statement) but it underlines how pleased with everything we were. Well done Swiss Corona and Riviera a Travel.
