Emerald Princess on Fire!!!

Reviewed By: on
We have just returned from a cruise on the Emerald Princess around the Med. It's our first time with Princess, having previously only cruised with P&O. The embarkation took a couple of hours for which they apologised as it was due to an inspection of the ship. Once on board we could go straight to our cabin which was an outside cabin on Plaza deck 5, absolutely fine with plenty of storage, hot strong shower, comfortable bed, no complaints at all. The ship is lovely and all the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our stateroom steward did a fantastic job as we are untidy so and so's but he on top of it and even noticed that we had a bottle of wine and provided wine glasses without being asked. We dined in the evening in the Michelangelo Dining room and always received great service, especially from Randolph who even did a few magic tricks at the table. We had a little upset the first night when the staff were called to stations because of a fire in the engine room. Unfortunately, we had another fire in the engine room a couple of days into the cruise, just a tad unnerving but no problems after that. The on board activities had something for everyone. We enjoyed the trivia quizzes and won a bottle of bubbly. We also, for the first time in our lives, had a go at the Bingo and won $420 over two days. Very pleased about that! We loved Movies Under the Stars too. Entertainment was hit and miss. Chris Ricketts must be married to the Captains daughter as that's the only reason we could think of why he is still employed on the ship. Steve Larkin as Mercury Rises was great entertainment, a fantastic voice and although his comedy is not my personal cup of tea he was still excellent. The scouse comedian was also really good. We went on a couple of excursions, to Cinque Terre and Portofino. The tour guides for Cinque Terre were especially good and both days were great. Overall we had a great time, we were comfortable, well fed and service was great. We'll definitely be cruising with Princess again.
