Review Profile

November, 2021
Annual/regular holiday
Times cruised before:
We got off to a bad start with the long queues and lengthy delays at Southampton Port in getting tested prior to boarding the ship. We had requested assistance with embarkation and aids in bathroom but these were not provided.  The balcony cabin was so cramped that my wife fell and injured herself trying to squeeze between the bed and nearside wall resulting in her needing medical attention at significant cost.  The entertainment was disappointing with two shows being shown two nights in succession meaning no main entertainment unless watching the same show on consecutive nights!  The only 'talk' was by an ex SAS officer who we have seen/heard on previous cruises. The food was acceptable without being particularly good, and having tomato soup on the menu almost every evening became monotonous to say the least; also the lunch time menu in the 'waiter' restaurants was very basic and uninspiring. On the plus side the afternoon teas were excellent, and some of the best we have experienced when compared with previous cruises. Where P & O really excelled was in the quality of their staff who were excellent in every respect, and went beyond the call of duty in providing advice and assistance when requested. This was particularly so in arranging assistance for my wife when she fell whilst attempting to board the coach for our journey home, resulting in her having to be transferred to hospital; the concern and support provided by the P & O medical staff was exceptional.  Also during the following days the P & O staff have maintained contact offering help if required, for which which both my wife and self are very grateful.
Not our best cruise by a long way and clearly the pandemic conditions was a major contributing factor, but P & O could and should have done better.
