Glorious first time cruise on P&O Britannia
Well, what can I say? We were excited and a little nervous about going on our very first cruise - would we be the youngest people on board? Would everyone be 'flashing the cash'? Would we feel claustrophobic? We need not have worried! Our 7-night cruise around the Norweigen Fjords in September 2018 was wonderful and we always felt so at home on board. We had an interior room and it was impeccably kept by our lovely room steward, Roberto. Our waiters could not have been friendlier or more professional and the opportunity to be part of a guest choir with Adam Allison was a highlight! The Crow's Nest bar was a particular favourite of ours for post-dinner drinks and listening to Adam play showtunes and other familiar songs on the grand piano. The Captain was excellent at keeping us informed of sailing conditions, departures, etc. and a nice chap to boot! We were never bored and sometimes found there was TOO MUCH to do - we wanted to be in several places at once! The staff are amazing. They work long hours and yet still always smile and ask after you. Some of them have been away from their families and homes for months on end and are visibly touched when you ask about these aspects of their lives. We loved our cruise and were so sad to leave. We're looking to book another one soon and have caught the cruising bug! None of our original fears were realised (sure, there are some stuffy and entitled people on board but there are wherever you go so it's no different from a hotel). (My only bugbear would be the photography team - they don't take very good photos! The angles they opt for are not flattering and the cost of the photo is not reflected in the quality.)
