P&O Aurora christmas 2018
It was with a mix of excitement and trepidation that we set off as a family of 4 (2 adults and two of our children 7 & 3) for our first Christmas cruise. Now I will begin by saying we love to cruise both with and without the children. The holiday provides us a wonderful mix of relaxation, family time, couple time and visiting new places. For us it ticks all the boxes a holiday should be. So why were we anxious? Having always had Christmas at home and summer cruises this was going to be a new experience. We chose a 10 night cruise on Aurora with P&O called the baltic cruise but actually North Sea. I should not have been worried. I can truly say our Christmas getaway was a holiday of a lifetime. As usual check in was swift and we were promptly on board. Kids were given alot of attention and straight away wanted to register for the kids club. Immediately we all loved the Christmas decorations and Christmas spirit. Lots of us decorated our doors and we also decorated our cabin. We had a large ocean view cabin which was perfect. No Pullmans and instead a sofa bed with a curtain separating the adult and children space. We also had a bath with shower over. It was a good choice for a family of 4. So firstly the ports. We visited Oslo, coppenhagen, Amsterdam and Bruges. I struggle to tell you which was my favorite as we loved all the ports, we even had snow in Oslo and coppenhagen much to the children's delights. We found plenty to do in each port, aquariums, museums, boat trips, ice skating, fun fairs. On board we equally enjoyed our time. The kids as always made friends in kids club and the activity leaders were fab. The kids asking if they'd be on Azura when we cruise in October. My husband and I were not short on things to do, we enjoyed cocktails, music, and time the two of us to reconnect. We enjoyed our meals in the dining room, but have to say the glass house was very much worth the extra money and we will definitely be visiting speciality restaurants when we cruise. It is hard to find fault, I would say my least favorite meal was the one on Christmas day, but strangely I was not too fussed. We did one P&O excursion this time and was also a little disappointed. I loved the little Christmas village we visited but as wihh other trips we have done the insesent talking of the tour guide in the coach reminded me why we tend not to book them! (we had to cover the kids ears as she went into a full description of Santa's round the world and how cola invented the red suit... Not what you want your 3 & 7 year old to hear but possibly interesting to those older in the coach) So did I feel I missed out having christmas at sea? Not at all, we did christmas family things before we left and it was great to not have any pressure to do things over Christmas and instead spend all our time as a family and as a couple. P&O remain my first choice cruise liner and Aurora my favorite ship.
