We travelled on Koningsdam on the 11 night Ancient Treasures cruise of the Mediterranean and the reason for selecting this cruise was that the itinerary was very appealing although we had visited some ports previously, we were still able to explore areas that we had not visited.

The outside pool / deck areas are well maintained and we liked the adult only pool on deck 10 aft which we made a lot of use of. The rattan sofas and chairs are a nice touch.

The ship is beautiful and has a musical theme running through although there was an absence of the big stage production shows that we've become accustomed to on other cruise lines we've used - Cunard, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, NCL, Princess, P and O.  Great entertainment in BB Kings Jazz Club; OnBoard Billboard with Michael and Tom the duelling pianists and The Rock Room and the timings of shows were well synchronised.

We opted for an aft large balcony stateroom and was one of the best staterooms we've had in 16 cruises. There was a double shower and ample storage / shelving; the stateroom was cleverly equipped with more than ample storage - there were overheard storage cupboards above the sofa, a full vanity unit with three drawers and excellent lighting; bed side tables / drawers; a double wardrobe with four deep drawers; two further cupboards located in a corner unit and an under bed storage drawer.  The lighting throughout the stateroom was excellent and this is often the one thing that annoys me on cruises but not on Koningsdam; it was superb.  We had a large, deep balcony immediately below deck 10 and the only disturbance we had was the setting up of sun loungers in the morning.  However, having a fill, 180 rear view was wonderful especially when waking up in Santorini and Myknos.

We signed up for a soft drinks package and a wine package and there was a decent choice of wines.

The Crows Nest on deck 12 would benefit from a pianist or soloist during the nighty happy hour from 10pm. Likewise the Ocean Bar on deck 2 has a grand piano but there were no musicians playing the entire cruise. this is a lovely mentally located bar and would attract more people if there was some evening entertainment.

The usual 12 noon Bridge announcements to explain the distance covered since the last port were absent.

The stateroom air conditioning malfunctioned and was repaired about 24 hours later.

We were assigned anytime dining in the main dining room deck 2. The service was consistently slow and took up to one and a half hours to have three courses. After two nights, we decided to go to the Lido Market on deck 10, which is the self serve buffet that we used for breakfast and lunch when on board.  The opening / service times are generally very restrictive and confusing as sections on both sides would be closed down so passengers were moving from side to side to gather food items.
Breakfast was until 10.00am
Lunch 12 - 14.00pm
Dinner 16.30 - 20.30

There is a cafe at the mid ship pool on deck 10 but the service here was also very slow. On one morning my husband ordered a bagel which came with an egg. He doesn't eat eggs so that was wasted and his order then went to the back of the queen. This was a port day and we were held up waiting for the servers error, which was politely pointed out to him.

We spoke to one of the Head Waiters in the main dining room on the last night about the restricted practice in the Lido Market and the length of time to get served in the main dining room and have communicated our disappointment in the online survey and this would be the only negative reasons we have for not cruising with HAL again.
