I chose the Fred Olsen Braemar cruise including the River Amazon followed by time in the Caribbean. I was initially worried about the age of this ship but I needn't have worried. Braemar is easily the cleanest cruise ship I've sailed in with crew taking the same pride in keeping her sparkling as they would their own homes. Food was excellent and well presented and served always with a good selection of choices. Drinks package was good value too. We suffered a twentyfour hour delay at the start of our cruise and this was dealt with very efficiently by Fred Olsen. Boarding was quick and efficient and an excellent breakfast was a perfect welcome for weary travellers. Entertainment was varied both in the Neptune lounge and in the various bars. Interesting events were arranged on occasions and these were both reasonably priced and well organised. The martini tasting was great fun as was the James Bond themed evening. British night was a tribute to the last night of the proms complete with union jacks. Some guests had taken great pains to dress in full patriotic glory complete with Union Jack waistcoats and top hats for the gentlemen and most ladies adhered to the red white and blue dress code Excursions were varied and well organised as well as fairly priced. River swimming with wild pink dolphins was particularly memorable. The cruise was a varied mix itinerary with enough time spent exploring the awesome River Amazon then four quite distinct Caribbean islands where there was ample time to relax and soak up the sun. Again excursions were well organised and varied giving the chance to explore beautiful tropical islands and relax on pristine beaches while enjoying a rum punch and an expert massage while topping up a suntan. Cruising is such hard work. I was initially doubtful of cruising with Fred Olsen due to old small ships but I will definitely choose to cruise with them again
