Brilliant 1st experience of a cruise
This was our first experience of going on a cruise and it worked out really well. My wife & I joined the Fred Olsen ship "Boudicca" in Dover on the 31st July 2019 for 7 nights, sailing to the Norwegian Fjords. Our baggage was instantly taken from us upon arrival at the Cruise Terminal by polite and helpful porters, to be delivered directly to our cabin within the hour. On board the (extensive) food choices were all excellent, as were the waiting staff. The two main restaurants (Four Seasons & Tintagel) could match any near top of the range eatery. Alternatively, the "Secret Garden" offered an extensive buffet style set of choices, but without any loss of food quality. Other / smaller food outlets were scattered around the ship. As if "only" having breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and evening meal were not sufficient for our widening waistlines, we then discovered the 11pm "Supper Club" ….. which offered yet more "themed" meal choices. The evening shows and afternoon lectures were all very professionally presented and were all entertaining. The cabin ("Superior Ocean View") was a good size. It had a fridge, safe & loads of storage cupboards etc. The three ports of call ( Olden, Flam and Bergen) were all beautiful (hence now busily sorting out the 694 photos taken on the trip ! ). Despite having previously been warned that Bergen has an average of 240 day of rain each year …. and so we expected the worse, the city thankfully obliged and completed a hat trick of really nice weather days for our final day ashore. Before leaving home, we booked a trip (via Fred Olsen) on the Flam railway, which turned out to be an excellent choice. In summary, we both really enjoyed all parts of the trip and would happily book with Fred Olsen again.
