Cruise Elements:

Quality of Food:
We ate in the Tintagel Restaurant in the evening but ate either there or in The Four Seasons Restaurant for breakfast and lunch. I love buffet breakfasts and had great pleasure in deciding which cooked items to have. This was preceded by fruit juice and finished off with ample coffee. For those with a healthier approach to food there were plenty of fruits, yogurts, croissants etc and cereals. For those with humungous appetites [and I saw a few] you could have the lot!!
Entertainment:
The entertainments team were excellent. I loved the British show and also the magician. The British show made us all feel patriotic - and probably more so as we should have brexited during the cruise, but it never happened.
Shore Excursions:
My least favourite excursion was in Gothenberg where we toured VolvoWorld [my words not theirs]. They are rightly proud of Volvo but having been told about them during the tour, then shown around the Volvo Museum I felt a bit Volvoed-out. Maybe that's a male/female thing as I actually have no interest in cars at all. My favourite excursion was Amsterdam by night. We sailed along the canals where we listened to a really interesting commentary. Everything looked so pretty lit up. There was also plenty of wine and cheese to help the trip along!
Staff:
I truly can't pick one above another. Fred Olsen prides itself on having the best crew and it is so true. They are all hardworking, polite and friendly.
Onboard Activities:
For me it was perfect but I guess if you had children or you were young yourself it might not seem so exciting. There are no climbing walls or flumes but that suits me.
Cabins:
I have travelled with Fred Olsen many times before so I knew what to expect. The cabin was quite spacious with plenty of wardrobe space. and tea and coffee making facilities. It also had a bath as well as a shower which pleased me.
My husband and I enjoyed a Mystery Cruise on board Fred Olsen's Boudicca. It was great fun trying to guess the destinations before we left home and joined the like-minded passengers on board to continue the guessing. The discussions continued around the dining table [we were in The Tintagel Restaurant] throughout the cruise. We chose to have a buffet breakfast and lunch but you could have waiter service if you wanted to. The food was varied and delicious. We have cruised on other lines but we think their food is the best. The staff were superb, as they always are with Fred Olsen, and couldn't do enough for you. The same applied to the cabin crew. We had an outside cabin which was spacious with plenty of wardrobe space. Back to the Mystery part - only the Captain and those on the Bridge knew our destination. I initially thought we were sailing around Ireland but we were told on the first evening to put our clocks forward - so that put paid to my theory! Some bright sparks told us to look at our phones when we neared land to see where the welcome message came from. Well - we were nearing Oslo and the phones were saying "Welcome to the USA" How did that happen? The whole cruise centred around mysteries with clues and red herrings abounding. There were a couple of Murder Mystery events in the evening too. Where did we actually go? We went to Oslo, Gothenberg, Copenhagen, the Kiel Canal and Amsterdam. Although we had been to most of them before, the ports were big enough to find somewhere new to visit. As we stayed overnight in Amsterdam we booked an evening tour. We didn't know we were going by boat along the canals and it was a magical trip. We would thoroughly recommend people trying a mystery cruise if only just the once.
