Emerald Dawn River Cruise
This was a cruise where everything was very well organised, except for the weather and Emerald Waterways had no control over that.
Our cabin was very modern, as was the whole ship, having been christened in 2015. There was only one restaurant to eat in and we found the food to be good rather than excellent. While on board there was the Horizon lounge to relax in and most people made use of it. The evening entertainment was rather mixed with opera singers, etc. but the most enjoyable was the sketchs put on by the crew of the Emerald Dawn.
The downside of river cruising is that when one or more ships are docked at the same time, you have to walk through those other ships in order to reach the dockside. It also meant that we were unable to use our drop down window in the cabin and had to keep our blinds closed while the other ships were alongside us. We felt at times that we could have been in an inside cabin, (although there are no "insides" on the ship) due to not having a view outside. This happened on three occasions during our week's trip.
Our excursions were fine and left exactly on the time the ship's cruise director said. Unfortunately the cold, wet and windy weather hampered our shore excursions, especially in Koblenz. While we were on the coach to The Black Forest and during the boat trip round the canals in Amsterdam and the coach trip to the windmills in Amsterdam, it was fine. The ship's crew and tour guides were all excellent. Our flights and transfers were all good and we have nothing but praise for the slick organisation. All in all, Emerald ticked all the right boxes. Would we go on Emerald again? Definitely Yes.
