Cruise Elements:

Quality of Food:
Always good but you must go to Grays Papya to feel like a New Yorker! $10 each !
Entertainment:
There are not so many theatres as the west End or different shows. But they have ballet in a better facillity than we have in London which was nice for a change. For sure they know how to put on a show especially at Radio city with the Rockettes. If you want to sknow the worst experience then it has to be the organisits in Radio City, what an experience.
Shore Excursions:
This time of year you can forget the Botanical Gardens, or a Gospel Church or or Central Park unless you need to say you have been there but the walking tours were fantastic and a real experience in understanding NY. Also walking around on your own at night you see so much. Open top bus tours so cheap and well worth the doing as it covers such a large area and you get a flavour of what you would like to go back to. Tea at the Plaza is the closest thing to the Ritz but less personal and crowded and not quite the boastable swank.
Staff:
Warm anf friendly in the main.
Onboard Activities:
The QM2 just had too many good things that we did'nt have a minute to spare. Good job the sun was not out! The captains announcements sounded like Boycie from only 'Fools and Horses' which cheered us up and made us feel very much at home! Afternoon Tea was not worth going to. Boarding and disembarkation was so British and well organised.
Cabins:
As always there are good and bad cabins. We had to change because we had many sleepless nights as everyting sounded like it was falling apart.
What a wonderful experience to view the city at a magical time that gets a 4*  BUT the coach company ruined it by continuously being late cutting short our visits or even not turning up. Also the transfer in NY was wholly inadequate and smashed our suitcases. That gets a 1* The return cruise on QM2 was outstanding and well in to the Christmas spirit and that gets a 5*  The Hotel was 5* and in easy walking distance of the nightlife. Plenty of restaurants lots of Italian but we have those here, Irish too but have those here, but you have to go to the famous corner hotdog venue 'Gray's Papaya' an outstanding experience of New yorkers real life and featured in many films.  All part of the experience. Macy's is not what we expected in the way of decorations being Christmas but to get to their decoration department you can go up those magnificent original wooden escalators to bring back the feeling of the thirties and bag yourself a heavily discounted bargain. Being of retirement age we have the house loaded with things from around the world so we got a tree ornament so that every year we are reminded of that magical trip. the Rockettes were brilliant. the Botanical Gardens dull due to the time of year as was central Park other than the Horse & Carriage rides being less crowded (Just to say you had done it) The Visit to see a Gospel Church and Choir was also a let down. But overall I would not have missed this trip as the time of year made it and seeing some of the buidings brings back memories such Miricale on 34th Street, GhostBusters, Sleepless in Seatle, Hoeme Alone and many many more. What other city is related to so many magical fairy tales.
