This year I became a cruiser and with the help of Emily from www.CRUISE.co.uk I suddenly found myself booked on a cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong before my daughters managed to wrestle my credit card off me. I had to fly to Singapore but all this was arranged by my new found angel and on the 11th Feb 2019 I joined the Queen Mary 2 in Singapore Marina Cunard. What a wonderful experience. From embarking and throughout the cruise I was pampered, nothing was too much trouble and the whole experience relaxing except for the bow tie bit but thats another story. My cabin was well set out, the cabin attendant looked after everything but then in fairness all their staff were attentive when asked anything and could not do enough for the travellers on board. I was allocated a table in the dining room with a group of other single people and although by the end of my stint I only knew them by their first names I thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with them. This was also highlighted by first class service all the time by the staff and I can assure you that the food was excellent and the wine matched it. I didnt go ashore on any of the tours but my table mates did and all spoke highly of them. If like me you just want a cruise then there is plenty to do, watch or listen too on board. I was amazed at so much going on. Jazz, classical piano recitals, lectures on all sorts of things or just chill out in the sun on a deck bed, But, and this is not based on personal experience there are some great tours arranged at cost in the places the ship docks Everything on that ship was top class. Ive never been so pampered and felt very relaxed. I did give formal dinner a miss one day to avoid dressing up, that was very good but I missed my table group and dined properly for dinners for the rest of the trip in a suit and tie. I dined all day in the buffet but what food and with my exercise around the desks I did not pile on weight. For those like me new to the business of cruising there is an option not to dress formally for meals up on desk 7 and the food there is equally as good with so many choices. Hygiene at all dining places on the ship was at a very high standard. Entertainment on the QM2 was very good every night I attended the theatre and when I didnt there were groups playing in various lounges all over. So? I have a new DJ Ive never used so Ive got to go on another cruise havent I? Now Ive got the hang of it Im aiming for cruising from Southampton, outside single cabin if possible Fjords or the Canaries or New York and back later in the year. I usually drive across a couple of States in USA or across provinces in Canada but I didnt miss that at all so when Ive got some dates in mind I will be looking to repeat the experience. Having avoided cruising for all those years I now regret it because if all cruise lines give the service like I received on the QM2 then this is the way to really chill out. Might I add when I did a cost comparison of my old travel methods, motels car hire food then cruising is not any more expensive and a sight more relaxing. If only there were more ships with single person accommodation.
