We chose to go on the Crystal Symphony because of the itinerary and had not been with this company before. Just 6 weeks previously we had been on the Regent Seven Seas Explorer and quite frankly were disappointed. This was also our first cruise with RSSC. So after Explorer came way short of expectations we went on Crystal Symphony knowing it was an older less glamorous ship and lowered our expectations. Well as soon as we boarded we knew that this was going to be the start of a great cruise because of the greeting we received from everybody as we checked all the facilities out . The staff we encountered everywhere we went were unbelievably helpful and friendly. The food was fabulous and the entertainment brilliant. Yes the ship is possibly needing a little bit of updating in areas but I believe this is planned for next year. Our stateroom was comfortable and well serviced. It was so good we are already planning our next cruise with Crystal in March but this time with Serenity which seems to get a big thumbs up from the regulars who we spoke to onboard. We loved Prego where we chose to go twice for free rather than try Silk Road as the menu didn't appeal to us but the main dining room served up fabulous food. We frequented the grill most days for lunch and had the breakfast buffet which was very civilised as there was always plenty of tables which were cleared by the ever present happy staff. We went to nearly all the shows which included a very good tribute to Elton John and also Zoe Tyler had a show which was excellent. The Crystal production team put on some great shows and the dancing from Leighton and Jo was breathtaking. We loved the violinist Marta who wouldn't be to all people's taste as she played songs by Bastille, Avici and David Guetta which the older clientele didn't appreciate but we did. Bruce was good on the piano in Crystal Cove. And finally we really liked the Bistro for lattes and cakes/scones/cold cuts etc which we preferred to the afternoon tea in Palm Court which was nice but busy.
