Marco Polo 1 night taster
I wanted to try Marco Polo so booked a taster 1 night Newcastle to London. I have also cruised on Magellan a few times. I am interested in the history of older ships like this. Externally Marco Polo has a lovely profile, inside its a bit spartan but is comfortable enough. I was in single inside cabin 101. This was a late booking and was just £99 for the 1 night taster. I was actually on-board just over 24hrs as I embarked about 11:30 then disembarked about 12:15 the next day. Was all straightforward enough. Lunch (waiter served) was excellent as was dinner. The buffet breakfast on CMV in my view is not great, very watery porridge and not great quality ingredients for the full English. Entertainment was very limited, the evening show was fine but the disappointment was little daytime activities especially considering not due into Tilbury until 12 noon and no daytime activities whatsoever so after breakfast had to just wait in the lounges with noting to do apart from reading and talking. Overall good though and I have another 2 cruises booked on CMV but both on Magellan. I would also like to try the 70+ year old ship Astor while she is still active. Drinks service was slow but this is not the bar staffs fault, I dont think they employee enough barstaff. Lunch service was on the abrupt side and lacked a level of friendlyness. Dinner service really good and the buffet was fairly straightforward the next day. There were a mix of people on board. Some had boarded for the same 1 night and others had boarded the night before in Scotland for a 2 night to London and some were staying on as the ship was about to sail to Canada, looked a really good itinerary.
