We have sailed four times with Avalon and a couple of times with Viking and we would prefer Avalon every time. They are friendly, helpful but not in your face. Glad you enjoyed your cruise and hope you will take another on one of the many rivers available.

We have taken many more River cruises (8) than ocean (just 5) - in fact first one with Uniworld, SIX with Avalon and one with AMA (via APT). All have been great as they included all the benefits and facilities described by 'Poole'. We were fortunate in 2014 to find a 2 for 1 offer with AMA on the Douro - only 8 days, but great! For me personally, extra benefits are: no potential seasickness (Bay of Biscay etc) less passengers - all of whom have been good company, berthing in/near town centres rather than at anchor, and no risk of pirates!!! Oh yes, it's definitely River Cruises for me ... but we are running out of European rivers.

Enjoyed the reviews. I have only ocean cruised so far and am going on my first river cruise from Vienna to Budapest, in August, so will report back.

The time has finally arrived we go to Lanzarote on the 26/06/18 on My Daughter’s birthday, this is just a cheeky week away as we weren’t going to go as we have so much booked this year. As it’s her Birthday the day we fly we decided to have her party on Sunday it will only be close family and friends but we thought we would make it special since she wouldn’t be here on the day. I keep asking her what she wants and she says a cake (it will be a cheap birthday if I onl...
