Amadara gently cruised along the Mekong Delta
Amazing experience sailing from Cambodia to Vietnam along the mighty Mekong. Our ship was the Amadara, a newer ship than the Amalotus, which was a little older than the Amadara. Although on a river cruise through tropical jungle we had no problems with flies or mosquitoes, which really amazed us. There were no creepy crawlies on the ship which was good, we took lots of tropical Deet products so don't know if these helped but we didn't have a single insect bite! The ship was luxurious and spotless. The food was interesting and local. We had the noodles for breakfast each morning. There was a good selection of well cooked food. In the evening there was fun entertainment. The guides were local and gave us lots of useful information about the places we were visiting. Our visit to the local village where the silversmiths lived and worked extremely interesting as we really got to see how the locals lived. We visited a primary school and were greeted by the youngsters who were so enthusiastic about learning that they were educated in 'shifts', which seemed to work well. The children were happy and there was no begging or hassle from the people we met. Money donated by visitors has enabled the village to to hook the school up to the electricity supply, making a tremendous difference to the youngsters. An excellent experience and not to be missed.. Our cabin was very spacious although the bed was quite high off the floor. If you had short legs you could struggle getting in and out of the bed. A luxurious bathroom was well supplied with excellent quality toiletries and the cleaning staff did an excellent job each day. We would highly recommend this trip to anyone who may be nervous about such an exotic journey.
