Cruise Elements:

Quality of Food:
We ate most meals in the main restaurant but enjoyed the chef's table on one evening. Beef was particularly good, but we enjoyed all the food, and were pleased to get a good amount of vegetables with each dinner.
All the visiting entertainers were good and gave a real flavour of french music.
Shore Excursions:
The excursions were mostly linked to wine tastings, and all were good. The trip in Blaye was very intertesting- the fortress held some surprises!
All the staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly_ Dorin was a particularly fun waiter.
Our cabin was a good size for a river ship and was well laid out. Having internet connection through pour room TV was much appreciated.
We returned yesterday from a great cruise on the AmaDolce, sailing in the Bordeaux region. The ship was immaculate, the staff were all wonderful, and we enjoyed some excellent meals, accompanied by high quality wines-all free with lunch and dinner. Our cabin was well designed with plenty of space and hangers for clothes, comfy large bed, a really good shower (with glass doors) and nice toiletries. Hot drinks were available from a coffee station at any time. We had buffet breakfasts and lunches, and evening meals with appetisers, soups, main courses, desserts- and cheese if you wished- and coffee. There was the option of enjoying a tasting menu at a separate small restaurant-the chef's table. This was well worth doing. Delicious macarons were available in the afternoon, also pastires and cakes, and there was always a late night snack-an amazing amount of food overall!!. Because the distances travelled on the Gironde and Dordogne were relatively small, we enjoyed the same excellent guides on our tours in each location. We enjoyed tastings of Sauternes, Medoc wines, Bourg and St.Emilion and saw many chateaux on our trip. Most of the countryside is covered in vines. In several locations, we were able to choose our excursion from two options. Bordeaux is a very elegant city, with many lovely limestone buldings. We enjoyed lots of local music- sometimes ashore, as when we were in Bourg, and at other times local musicians came on board to play and sing for us. All were very good. We booked this cruise at the last minute and enjoyed a good discount on the price, but we will definitely consider travelling with AmaWaterways again. We have cruised with several river companies, and this is one of the best. It was a wonderful and memorable week.Fellow passengers were a mix of British, American, Canadian and Belgian, and most were very sociable.
