Cruise the Scottish islands for the trip of a lifetime… and a change to the Fjords

By the time you read this blog, my wife and I will be on our final day, of a spectacular trip, following the North Coast 500.

Now, you’re wondering what is the North Coast 500 because it’s really not that well known?

It is highly regarded as one of the top scenic road trips there is…     and it’s on our doorstep.It starts and finishes, a circular 516 mile route from Inverness. It covers the Scottish Highlands, and it’s a trip I have always fancied doing. I started planning our trip in February, to be sure we could get accommodation. Our plan was to travel anti-clockwise, hugging the coast of Scotland, and travelling the full route. No doubt, we have got lost, and deviated a great deal. The scenery we have been told is truly amazing. We’ll see.Clearly, you cannot cruise this route, but over the many years that I have been in the cruise industry, I have seen much of the world and that’s great, but I also came to realise, that we have on our doorstep, some of the most spectacular cruise itineraries. Tourists from around the world flock to the UK to start their cruises, from many different ports, the most popular of which is Southampton. From here, they have the magnificent Norwegian Fjords, itineraries that take them as far north as Honningsvag and the North Cape, the islands of Spitsbergen, Iceland and, of course, the islands to the north of Scotland.Cruises that concentrate on the Scottish Highlands are few and far between, so early booking is a must. In return, you’ll be treated to one of the most spectacular cruise itineraries of them all.

The Norwegian Fjords is an itinerary that I have done many times, and yet I still do not tire of it.For pure relaxation, I can think of no better cruise to opt for. Try it yourself, and you’ll see just what I mean.
