Warwick’s quick cruise guide!

Our local cruise industry has increased past the 2 million passenger mark for the first time since 2018 a year before Clia predicted it would. It is because of this that more than 110 new vessels are due to enter the world market to meet the growing worldwide demand.

Cruises are no longer a stuffy, formal holiday choice. Every cruise line is pushing the boundaries of innovation with the launch of every new ship. So here is my quick guide to what is out there.

Best cruise ship for families is undoubtedly Royal Caribbean. This is thanks to its facilities. They have gorgeous ships and spend millions to make sure you are wowed. They will have one ship based in Southampton next year – Anthem of the Seas. Royal Caribbean ranks highest with entertainment. The line has upped its game with West End musicals such as Mamma Mia and Grease. There are also spectacular ice-skating shows and breathtaking high-divers in the Aqua Theater which is found on some of the larger ships.

Best cruise ship for ex-UK is P&O in my opinion. There are year-round departures on offer as well as its British appeal and keen prices. Tips are now included in all P&O sailings and prices on board are all sterling based. What I would call a good value cruise. They also have very good value fly-cruises to the Mediterranean out of Malta and the Caribbean from Barbados.

Cunard with its history and heritage are my top pick for world cruises and the infamous transatlantic between New York and Southampton.

Celebrity Cruises are what I would call affordable luxury. They are the closest you can get to 5-star cruising before you cross over into the luxury lines. Oceanview and above generally comes with their classic drinks package. If you book Aqua Class you get unlimited use of the spas thermal suite, access to Blu – a restaurant with a healthy food touch to it.

Princess cruises are best for Alsaka and Asia itineraries. They are known in the industry as the destination leader. They will have 3 ships sailing out of Southampton next year which is their longest ever ex-UK season.

In the Mediterranean, you can find all these ships but MSC is recognised as the expert when it comes to sailing in the Med.

As you can see from just this brief guide there is so much choice out there. I have not even covered the smaller ships, Luxury brands or river cruising!

It is always best to call a cruise consultant such as myself who will find that perfect cruise for you.
