End of an era

Such a sad week for our industry, as one of the biggest name in  travel Thomas Cook collapsed leaving hundreds of thousands of customers displaced throughout the world and many without future holidays to look forward to, after being unable to secure the £200 million to carry on trading.

Within our travel industry this news also sadly means around 9000 people many of which are our friends and past colleagues woke up Monday morning having lost their jobs many of which have worked for the doomed company for many many years. Their loss was felt throughout the industry as most of us have at some point had some dealing with Thomas Cook.

For me I started at  Thomas Cook back in 1998 during a work placement whilst studying at college. After a year working a United Vacations I took the leap back to high street travel joining Thomas Cook. I spent the next 15 years with Cooks shortly in Bromley before heading closer to home in Hempstead Valley. During those years I worked with some amazing people who I am forever grateful to still call my friends and share many happy and funny memories with.

Over the last week I am so proud to be part of a industry that has shown support and care to those effected. I have seen many companies open their doors to employment, help with cv’s, interview technics etc including cruise.co.uk. I know they will never forget this kindness.

If you, or someone you know, has been personally affected by Thomas Cook’s closure, then we recommend visiting the Thomas Cook CAA webpage. This site contains all of the information and advice that you will need to get through these tough times.

In a statement from P&O for their guests that may be concerned.

We will be contacting all guests who have current or future P&O Cruises holidays booked through Thomas Cook. All P&O Cruises holidays booked through Thomas Cook will be going ahead as planned. Those travelling on Thomas Cook aircraft on our fly/Caribbean or fly/Mediterranean cruise holidays will also be updated as soon as we have confirmed alternative aircraft.

Until Next time

Marie
