Cruising down the Rhine

On my last blog i told you all i was going on a River Cruise with Fred Olsen on the Brabant down the Rhine, well now i am back i wanted to share some of my experience with you. I had the most wonderful time and really enjoyed trying a River Cruise.

We flew out to Frankfurt and then joined the ship in Koblenz, we got straight on the ship so did not get a chance to see much of the town, however in the afternoon we were cruising down the Middle Rhine Valley and the scenery was stunning, the weather was brilliant which was bonus as we sat on top deck taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Next morning we arrived in Speyer, on the morning we had an excursion to the Tecknik museum, now i am not one for museum’s really however this one was excellent i was very impressed, it was a museum filled with lots of forms of transport, so old airplanes, cars, bikes you name it, even old space shuttles and submarines! The museum was only a short walk from the ship so very accessible on foot and we spent most of the morning there before wandering back to the ship for lunch with a quick stop off at a lovely pub/restaurant on the way for a little German Beer. We had free time on the afternoon which we spent having a good look around on the ship and looking at the facilities, now the ship is just small as you can imagine, i will tell you more about the ship on my next blog.

The following morning we docked in Strasbourg, France which is a lovely place, we took the Cobbles and Clock excursion which is a walking tour of the town, we visited the Cathedral along the way which is really nice, then we continued walking through the town until we reached La Petite which is an area of the town and is so beautiful and has little lovely timber buildings and narrow streets with the canal running through. It’s such a lovely town and i would love to go back. This afternoon we were back on the ship to take our business session where we learnt lots about the ship and the product of Fred Olsen it’s self.

This then takes us to our final morning which we woke up in Basel Switzerland, Basel is on the boarder of both France and Germany, it is a same that we did not get time to explore in Basel as we had a flight at lunch time so needed to get back to the airport.

Keep your eyes peeled for my next blog where i will share all details about the ship with you. thanks for reading.
