Welcome to the Family – The Odyssey of the Seas!

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines is one of the largest cruise lines in the World and have broken many records in the past years with the launch of the Oasis of the Seas in 2009 they really have been ahead of the market with many cruise lines struggling to keep up and the competition really is tough with MSC bringing out similar sized ships with the Seaside and Meraviglia Class vessel, not to mention the World Class ships which will be 200,000 plus gross tonnage from 2022 and NCL with the Breakaway class and then the addition of the new Leonardo Class from 2022 but NCL are going smaller with the new ships at around 140,000 gross tons and just 3,300 passengers which personally I think is a good move, the bigger the ship the less places it can go – 140,000 tons is a good size and can get in to most ports world wide and NCL have said there will be 6 of them.

Moving back to Royal Caribbean, in total they have 30 ships including those on order, and excitingly they have just named the latest addition to join the fleet – Odyssey of the Seas! She will be the second Quantum Ultra Class ship to join the fleet and be a sister to the Spectrum of the Seas that will launch in April this year. There are not to many difference between the Quantum and Quantum Ultra class ships, similar to that of the Meraviglia and Meraviglia Plus class ships in the MSC Fleet, from the Outside they will look much the same so if you are a fan of the Ovation, Quantum or Anthem of the Seas then you will like the Spectrum and the Odyssey however as normal they are improving slight features to enhance your overall experience.

We already know that Spectrum will have a private key card access all suite complex with private pool, sundeck and restaurant like that of the Haven on Norwegian Cruise lines and the Grills on Cunard which when you are paying some of the Suite prices to be honest you would expect the exclusivity that these areas offer. We will also see the addition of the Sky Pad – the virtual reality trampoline experience which you can find on the newly revamped Independence of the Seas.

More features will be announced over the next few months, but a big welcome to the Odyssey of the Seas but we will have to wait under late 2020 for Odyssey, although for those that cannot wait Spectrum is out in April cruising Asia.
