The odyssey of the Seas

For those who haven’t heard,

Royal Caribbean International has marked the official start of construction of its 27th ship, the new Quantum Ultra ship Odyssey of the Seas at Meyer Werft in Germany. We do like a bit of German engineering.

The Odyssey a Sister ship to 4,246-passenger Spectrum of the Seas, she is the fifth ship for Royal Caribbean International within the last few years.

The Odyssey of the Seas, will be Royal Caribbean’s second Quantum Ultra-Class ship, will launch in the fall of 2020. Unlike its sister ship, Spectrum of the Seas, Odyssey will sail from the United States. Despite carrying the “ultra” tag, the ships are only a tiny bit larger than their Quantum class fleet-mates – 168,800 gross tons versus 168,666 gross tons.

Little is known about the Quantum Ultra Class, though we do know Spectrum of the Seas will have a key-card access, all-suite complex with a private swimming pool and restaurant. Spectrum will also have the Sky Pad virtual reality trampoline experience, though after some research  don’t expect to see that on The Odyssey.

Other ships in Quantum Class include Anthem, Quantum & Ovation of the Seas. The Ultra Quantum being the Spectrum of the Seas. The Odyssey will start in the U.S.A but she will end up here in the U.K departing from Southampton. The official itinerary programme has yet to be announced.

Most cabins on the Odyssey of the Seas will be Balcony cabins. This ship will also have Family Suites, 2 & 3 Bedroom Loft Suites and size up to 1640ft Some of the 2-Storey Suites will also feature a 3D Cinema and indoor slide. That should keep the kids entertained. I wouldn’t want to leave the cabin.

There will also be a Golden Suite” which is a new cabin category with VIP amenities – exclusive dining room, bar-lounge, sundeck. The “Royal Suite Class” booking category (suite accommodations only) provides Quantum’s highest paying passengers with the ultimate all-inclusive cruise experience of Royal Caribbean, marked by Coastal Kitchen exclusive access, 24-hour personal butler service, included gratuities, all-inclusive drinks, free Internet and thermal suite unlimited access. Odyssey OTS also has wheelchair-accessible cabins and virtual balconies (interior rooms with real-time ocean views – Virtual balcony as we know them)

This ship will have larger cabins, more connecting family cabins and some new studio cabins for the solo traveller. The Odyssey will have Golden and Silver Suites, with an exclusive suites-only complex. The enclave is located forward on decks 13-15-16 and consists of Golden- and Silver- categories suites grouped in a private complex. Golden and Silver passengers are provided with exclusive keycard access, private lift, exclusive restaurant and bar-lounge. Suites-exclusive amenities also include access to “The Balcony” (private sundeck area on Deck 16) and “The Boutique” (VIP shopping area on Deck 15, also providing information and booking of private / customized shopping tours ashore).

We’re going to see some of the favourite speciality dining restaurants on board too from Chops Grille, Chef’s table, Jamie’s Italian, Izumi and Wonderland to name a few.

Every time I see a new ship being launched I just want to go on it. This is no different. Once more details are released on it’s launch date and the maiden voyage itinerary we will let you know. Still my person favourite are Royal Caribbean. I’ve not been on the Quantum class so I think I should. I have enjoyed the Voyager, Freedom and Oasis class. Though The Independence is one of my favourites as personally not so keen on the Oasis class. Just the design of the ship being like everything is at the back of the ship and so open. Personal opinion of course.

Do check back for updates as I’m sure there will be announcements in due course. I’m already excited about this new ship and will be keeping an eye on it’s progress.
