Mini Cruise

I’m a big fan of Royal Caribbean and recently went on The Independence of the seas after she had been in for refurbishment in April.

Always nice to visit a ship that seems brand new. She’s 10 years old now but all the same after a refurbishment it still feels new.  I’d not been on her since her launch back in 2008 and I could see that a lot had changed. If you were to look online and research the changes you will probably see that a lot more cabins have been added to fill empty spaces. First impression when I read this was oh no not more sun loungers and being cramped like sardines around the pool, Benidorm at sea. it wasn’t like this, I think they have done a good job with the extra cabins and had I not read about it I probably wouldn’t have noticed any difference. So, that was a good thing.

The ship itself was beautiful, she’s a really nice ship and I have to admit that I am more of a fan of the Freedom class than the Oasis class. The Freedom class of ship feels longer in length and to me that feels bigger rather than a ship being higher which is actually deceiving.

To take a walk around one of the decks that has a jogging track really gives you the feeling of it being a large ship. Each to their own but I am a big fan of the larger ships. The Americans like to do things large.

I went with my wife Sarah and we had a great time. She’s now a big fan of Royal Caribbean too.  We booked this as a little break and I’m already looking at next year to see when she’s sailing again as a mini cruise.

When you go on a mini cruise, it is a little different from a normal voyage as the clientele are different. Some may regards as a booze cruise for a weekend affair, I appreciated it as a little break. This was better than going to London for a weekend and seeing a theatre show. Or any city for that matter. Value for money for food and service and entertainment you can’t  beat it.

I always tell people, especially those new to cruise, if trying a mini cruise for the first time to get a taste of a cruising experience it is a little different from a traditional voyage.

We are currently focusing heavily on mini cruises at present and have some fantastic offers so do check our website and check back here for some more information soon.

If you can get on a Royal Caribbean ship like the independence do so because she’s a great ship. She’s now my favourite ahead of the Navigator of the Seas.
