Three Hidden Gems In Greece To Put On Your Bucket List

Happy young couple on Santorini island, Greece.

Greece is one of my personal favourites for places to visit and I would advise everyone to sample the food and culture on one of the over 6,000 islands and islets.  Only 227 of these are inhabited but it could still take you years to visit all of them!

The Greek islands are becoming more and more popular and are definitely tourist hotspots for singles, clubbers, couples and families alike.  The big questions you have to ask yourself are…where should you head for a quiet Greek oasis? How do you know which small islands are worth the boat ride to visit? Well I have everything you need to know right here……

Folegandros

This island is so tiny that it doesn’t even have an ATM, but it’s the perfect place to visit to take in the beautiful volcanic scenery. It’s nickname is “the new Mykonos”  due to its summer parties and relaxed atmosphere."Aggali Beach,FolegandrosGreece"To see the best of this island I would recommend exploring the coast in a water taxi or dine in one of the local restaurants that serve anything from goat to grilled octopus or pasta.

Spetses

Spetses is an island with plenty of posh hotels, mansions and boutiques.  The horse drawn carriages add to the bohemian feel of this destination.

The island features luxury yachts and designer stores.  In the square you will find domed churches and traditional tavernas with tables lining the road.  Take a stroll along the promenade to mingle with the locals.

Ithaca

This island is known for being the home of Odysseus, an ancient Greek hero.  It took him 10 years to return to his homeland.  For those of you that don’t know your Homer you may never have heard of it!

The island itself is full of olive groves, fishing villages, Byzantine churches and quiet beaches. Even if you aren’t in search of the islands history, the local savoro fish or tserepato chicken is reason alone to visit this stunning island.

Now to ask the big question!  What do you think of these three hidden gems in Greece? Are any of them on your bucket list now? Are you looking for that destination that has beautiful scenery, tourist places and plenty to do?
