It’s all Been Happening At Sea!

This week has definitely not been the best week in the world of cruising.  If you have been keeping up with the news you will know there have been 3 events that have affected the cruising world.

These circumstances are very unusual but the weather and technical issues have caused these rare occurrences:

Navigator Of The Seas

On the 26th of October Navigator of the Seas left Southampton on a 10 night Canary Island cruise.  On the first day at sea the ship had an engine failure which apparently breached the hull.  The ship had to miss Madeira and dock in Vigo, Spain for two nights to be repaired.  This Canary Island cruise has been cut short and the Itinerary has been changed so the ship can be on schedule for her Transatlantic Cruise.   There have been a few complaints on board regarding the communication between staff and passengers.  Guests have been given on board credit and it has been said they will receive a future cruise certificate.

Celebrity Constellation

Yesterday Celebrity Constellation broke its moorings in La Spezia, Italy due to high winds and collided with a Costa ship.  There have been no injuries and the passengers have been kept informed of what has been happening.  The ship’s arrival in Rome was sheduled for later on today.

Venice

Venice is under water.  The bad weather in Europe has flooded St Marks square and the surrounding areas.  This is a seasonal thing in Venice but the heavy rain recently hasn’t helped.  Schools and hospitals have been closed and the locals have been advised against leaving their homes.

And of course not forgetting to mention the issues with River Cruises.  The water level has been so low after a very dry summer so the river cruise ships have not managed to sail down the main rivers.  This has led to river cruises being cancelled and passengers already on these cruises have been transported around by coach.

So as you can see the weather has had a lot to answer for this week!  Fingers crossed things will start returning to normal.

Until next time…Happy Cruising!
