Gaining My Independence Part 1!

Hi everyone.  I have just returned from annual leave where I spent a week on Independence Of The Seas with my partner.  We did a 7 night Northern Cities Cruise which visited Hamburg Germany, Oslo Norway and Zebrugge for Bruges Belgium.

This was my first time back on Independence since its refit so I was excited to see the changes that had been made to the ship since my last cruise on her in 2016.

This first part of my blog is all about the ship.

Boarding in Southampton was very quick.  We arrived at 11.00am and were on board drinking champagne cocktails by just after 11.30am!  I went to my favourite bar the Champagne Bar on Deck 5.

We had the Deluxe Drinks Package which was definitely worth it.  All drinks up to the value of $14 are included.  Here is an example of the drinks menu

We were unable to get to our cabin until 1pm so we had a bit of an explore on the ship.  I wanted to see some of the new features this ship had.  There was still the Flow Rider and the Rock Climbing Wall and the new additions were the Perfect Storm Waterslide, the Pad Climber and the Sky Pad

There were some new places to eat which included Fish & Ships on the Pool Deck and also Izumi which was the Teppanyaki Speciality Restaurant.

There were 3 sea days in this 7 day itinerary and unfortunately on the sea days the weather was not very good and it was very cold on deck.  You could certainly tell there are now extra cabins on this ship as it was very crowded inside but of course the weather did not help this.

On the first night we went to eat in Johnny Rockets which has always been a favourite of ours.  There is a cover charge of $10 per person but you can eat as much as you like and the milkshakes are amazing!

We ate in the main dining room on the first of the formal nights and on the second of the formal nights we went to Giovanni’s Table.  This is the Italian Restaurant on Deck 11 just inside the Windjammer Buffet Restaurant.  This is one of the Speciality Dining options so you do have to book and there is a cover charge of $34 per person but it was well worth the extra money as the food was delicious!

Next time I will tell you all about the ports we visited.

Until next time…Happy Cruising!
