A visit to China 10 minutes from home

So I am a bit late to the party as always and only just managed to get one of the last visit slots for the Terracotta Warriors exhibition at Liverpool’s World Museum last weekend that has been on since February.

Growing up in the 1980’s I remember hearing about the discoveries being made by farmers, in fields in China whilst watching John Cravens Newsround! So my subconscious has always known about them, then as a travel agent I have arranged trips to China over the years and included trips to see them for customers but my knowledge only stretched as far as I had heard on TV or brief descriptions in brochures.

This weekend I truly had my eyes opened as i joined the ques at the Museum entrance and viewed the warriors for myself. I hadn’t realised just how far back the warriors dated and the sheer scale of what the Qin Dynasty had built in China all those 1000’s of years ago. I was horrified to read 100’s of people where sacrificed to join the first Emperor in the afterlife with him…. what a crazy concept they believed in that you needed protecting and to take people with you once you had died. I learnt so much in the hour I had to explore this fantastic exhibition. and its left me wanting to see more. Ive now added China onto my bucket list of places i want to see before i die!+

How strange that all those years ago they planned for after they have gone and now we try to cram and see so much in to our lives before we go….
