Sam's Sea Stories

Hey Jude.

Not for the first time the Great British weather is making headlines again. I’m sure we’ve all seen pictures of storm St Jude battering our southern regions over Sunday night/Monday morning and the trail of devastation left in her wake. I also suppose that none of us are suprised to hear of all the disruptions to our road, rail and airport networks either. London Heathrow airport cancelled 130 flights over recent days piling misery onto many unfortunate holiday makers attempting to fly out in search of some much needed winter sun.

As for those lucky enough to have booked a cruise holiday sailing from the UK over this recent storm hit weekend, no delays whatsoever. Dover port reopened just after 9am this morning after a brief closure and today Southampton port is operating as normal. Two cruise ship departures, Crown Princess and AIDA Sol, will leave as scheduled this afternoon.

While I appreciate sailing in these wind swept waters may be a little ‘interesting‘ i’m sure it’s a preferred option to hanging around an airport departure lounge surrounded by highly stressed out, greatly inconvenienced enraged travellers. I can just imagine relaxing, Brandy in hand waving goodbye to UK travel chaos while drifting off to warmer climes – surely the sensible option.

So in conclusion – book a cruise holiday, even the British weather can’t spoil it!

I would be interested to hear any experiences you may like to share if you did cruise out of the UK on either Sunday or Monday during storm St Jude, I’d love to know how you got on.
