The Butcher The Baker The Candlestick Maker

crew

The Butcher, the Baker the Candlestick Maker, yep, if you can think of a trade or a profession, you can bet your bottom dollar that a cruise ship has one.

I was absolutely astounded from my recent trip onboard the brand new Majestic Princess when we were taken on a behind the scenes tour of the crew area including the Majestic Princess beer fridge, [ lets start with the most important ] and the M1 highway!! Its a whole other world down there where the crew work harder than we could ever imagine. I will never doubt where my behind the scene tips go from now on. Its a bustling city of butchers, bakers, copy print and designers, chefs, electricians, carpenters, mechanics, locksmiths, paramedics, I could go on. Needless to say I have never seen such a smooth running operation where all the crew absolutely love what they do. And these workers are all there for our enjoyment, our pleasure. Princess cruises boast to have the friendliest crew at sea, and let me tell you, that even in their own crew area, even whilst hard at work, everyone had a smile on their face and was pleased to welcome us.

The mind completely boggles when you enter the M1 highway, each cruise ship has a central busy bustling point, a main corridor where crew and staff scurry from one end of the ship to the other going about their daily business, normally named off an american highway like the I-5 but Majestic Princess has a british motorway name, the M1. And just like the M1 the traffic does not stop.

Take a look at the video clip here:

We were taken firstly down the M1 where we kept moving with the flow and feeling like we needed indicators, everyone knows exactly what they are doing and where they are going, we moved into the office areas where the head of departments work hard in running  a tight operation for food beverage and housekeeping. I can imagine the time that has to go into this and what a good job they do. From here we passed the copy room where 1000s of daily newspapers are printed 24 hours a day. It is like the daily Echo it is that busy. The kitchens and food preparation areas are huge, all meat is prepared by the butchers and stored back in the fridge ready for use by the chefs. They were just preparing 1500 burgers and trays of chicken skewers as we entered, The fridges storing all this meat are absolutely  huge. As is the provisions area for storage of all groceries. They even have their onboard fork lift truck and driver for moving provisions about and loading on and off ship. And my Favourite part? The beer fridge :)…It is huge, containing all the beer, wine and champagne keeping it just chilled perfectly ready for consumption – perfect.

So this is a massive thank you to all the Majestic Princess crew working hard out there, and all other cruise ship crews, thank you 🙂
