Sally Walker Talks Cruises

Is upper class worth it?

Have you ever indulged and traveled in business or upper class with the schedule airlines?

And more importantly is it worth it?

So my answer to that is yes, for sure, it is something we should all try and indulge in at least once and with more airlines and bigger business class sections this is becoming all the more achievable.

We recently flew out to new York JFK from Heathrow with Virgin, outward we flew economy and on the return we upgraded to Upper class. I always find the overnight flight better to do this.

The check in for Upper class at JFK was in the premium section of the airport which led straight to the fast track security section which we breezed through.

The Virgin clubhouse lounge was fab, we have used many airport lounges before which we have paid for such as no1 at london or aspire, and had some whereby they are included such as the Vroom at Gatwick with Virgin.

The clubhouse was a little different, everything being waiter service from the moment you walk in you are handed a menu for food and drink and the staff are attentive and come round frequently to offer more food and drink including champagne!!  There was plenty to keep you occupied, movies, pool table, quite zone with beds, showers, and best of all – the spa, you can have one treatment before the flight which is included so it was lovely to have a manicure and a glass of champagne before the flight.

When it came to boarding, we were escorted from the lounge to the gate after everyone had embarked so there was no waiting on the plane for the plane to fill or queuing, we literally walked on, and off we took. This was fab.

So the whole buildup at the airport was perfect and seamless.

The flight itself was simply brilliant – turning left on the plane for a start was amazing.

So in Virgin upper class all the seats are individual pods which have their own pull out TV screen. These pod seats have a full leg rest and recline also into a fully flat bed which the cabin crew will come and convert with a mattress and quilt, and you are also given pyjamas!!

Again as soon as you board you are handed a menu for the flight which details dinner and breakfast and you can place your order.

The drinks menu is extensive with champagne, and Irish coffee for bed, or hot chocolate and cookies for children, a great menu.

So much choice for food, I had starter, main and cheese and crackers,  and a full omelette for breakfast. The little salt and pepper airplane shakers were a little novel.

There is also the bar area which you can go to to sit and get a snack or drink.

The cabin crew are amazing and it was simply a fabulous flight, which we would definitely do again.

So if ever you get the chance and feel like splurging and upgrading, it is most definitely worth it 🙂
