Afternoon Tea has been a tradition for Centuries and one of the most worldwide spread English traditions. It began in the 1840’s where it was a popular event by high society and Royals. Cunard has served afternoon tea for decades and they certainly know how it’s done. It is more than a tradition for Cunard as it reinforces their heritage together with the White Star service. I have recently returned from a Queen Mary 2 cruise and it was an indulgent affair. It was served in the Queen’s Room from 15.30 daily for an hour with the exception of embarkation day. All tables were prepared with Wedgwood China and silver service.
The white gloved waiters offered tea as soon as we arrived, others would carry silver platters of finger sandwiches, delicious scones, delicate cakes and pastries.
The harpist playing the background music created a lovely ambiance and set the mood to the posh afternoon tea. So, whether you are a member of Royalty or not, anyone going on a Cunard cruise should experience it at least once.
