Where are the lifeguards……

This week again brings the very sad news of a child drowning on board a cruise ship. The incident happened on board the NCL Breakaway. Two children were pulled from the water, tragically the 4 year old died on the ship, and a six year old boy was airlifted to hospital accompanied by his grandmother. Surely enough is enough now. How many more children have to die before cruise ship wake up and do something about it?

I do agree that the safety of the child is a joint responsibility of the parent and the cruise line, however  with cruise lines designing ships with fantastic waterparks and slides on-board to attract families surely they should be providing the safety back-up that is a standard in many countries with this facility. They have Gym instructors in the Gym, strict ratio of childcare assistants in the nurseries and children’s clubs so why would you not in the most dangerous place on board a ship for a child to play have attendants to assist with their safety.

Surely after this incident cruise lines will have to look at this and do something about it. How many more children have to die before cruise lines allocate a very small percentage of its staff budget to this facility? Considering they already have thousands of staff on-board, I’m certain passengers are not going to miss having two less waiters in the restaurant, knowing that there are two more qualified staff looking out for their safety in one of the most dangerous parts of the ship.

Let’s face it cruise lines have made enough cut backs over the last couple of years, isn’t it about time they gave something back to passengers and I don’t mean in the form of on-board credit or drinks packages!!!!!!!

Don’t you agree?????
