‘What made Britain great’

Scarecrow weekend

The Belbroughton Scarecrow festival certainly lived up to its expectations this year with thousands of visitors decending on the small village to hunt down the best hand made scarecrow. The theme picked by a local school pupil ‘The best of Britain’ enticed villagers to rack their brains and imagination to come up with a suitable scarecrow to fit the bill. There were ‘tea & scones’, ‘Winston Churchill’s’, ‘Morcambe & Wise’, ‘The beatles’, ‘Great British weather’,’The NHS’ to name but a few.

My favourite had to be ‘Mary Poppins’.

The afternoon was topped off with an aerobatic display by former RAF tornado pilot ‘Richard Goodwin’. Bombing through the clouds in an old fashioned stunt plane, he really had the crowd on edge marvelling at his fantastic daredevil skills.
