Recipe for success

As always Royal Caribbean are leading the way with new enticing ideas to keep their passengers happy on board. When flexible dining was first introduced on board ships many passengers were sceptical of trying something new, they’d always had first or second dining so going into unknown territory was a big leap for many. Over the years anytime dining, freedom dining, select dining, or open dining, whatever you want to call it has become a far more popular choice when deciding when and where you want to eat.

I believe it has massively changed the dynamics of cruising as years ago the dining experience was the main event for many, enabling you to sit with family, friends and new companions, share stories and learn new intriguing facts. Nowadays people would rather dine with their own friends and family or prefer just a table of two,  joking when they book that they are unsociable bods when really it’s a polite way of saying we don’t want to be sat with the same miserable couple we sat with last year, we dreaded going down to dinner. It makes me laugh when making reservations but I have to agree, it can make it a very long cruise if you are sat with passengers you have absolutely nothing in common with and do not share the same sense of humour.

Royal Caribbean are intriducing ‘Dynamic dining’, and it is only exclusive to the Quantum class of ships at the moment. They are doing away the main dining room, no set first or second sitting. This will be heaven for us travel agents as very often passengers will not book a cruise if they cannot confirm a specific dining time. With a selection of 18 unique venues passengers will be spoilt for choice where to dine each evening.

I think Royal Caribbean have got it right creating the possibility for you to have a different dining experience every evening of your cruise. When I go abroad one of the main parts of my holiday is sourcing out a good selection of restaurants to dine in, I still believe it also the reason I spent 10 years as an overseas rep travelling to as many countries as I could. As they say variety is the spice of life, I can’t wait to try some of these restaurants out…………………
