Lost your suitcase????

lost-property1_0Thankfully I never have!

I was speaking to a past passenger the other day who is still trying to locate his suitcases from a holiday he took last September. Unfortunately he put his camera and valuables in his suitcase as it was only being transferred from his cabin to the hanger the following morning, that was the last time he saw it.

I read recently that Samsonite are developing a product which will make the ‘lost suitcase’ scenario thing of the past. Samsonite are set to install tracker devices into their suitcases so if they go astray you will know exactly where they are. Genius!!

In 2014, 24.1 million pieces of baggage were mishandled worldwide, meaning they were temporarily or permanently lost. Of these, 85 per cent were returned to their owners within 48 hours, but 5.5 per cent were lost forever.

Samsonite have developed a tracker system which will enable passengers to locate their cases but only within a 75 yard distance., however they will be able to tell if their case is moving closer or further away from them.

If their case is lost they can report it via a Smartphone app.

Travellers would need to register their case to a free app and the tracking system would be operated via their smart phone. If their case is lost they can report it via the app. The more people using the system, the easier it will be to locate a lost case as if another uses happens to pass the lost case the app will flag it up that another user is within range of the suitcase.

Great idea, however it will not come cheap. The product should go live by the end of the year so might be something you want to put on your list for Santa. If I win the lottery this year it will be on mine!!!!!
