I’ve never had an upgrade………..

I must have heard hundreds of my passengers say this to me over the years, my response is usually ‘well if you don’t ask you don’t get, you never know maybe it will happen on the next one.’

Or

‘I’ve cruised 10 years with XYZ and I’ve never been upgraded, what do we need to do to get an upgrade?????

It’s always nice to get something for free, but how do upgrades really come about? This is my theory and it’s not rocket science…

The answer is, it’s entirely pot luck. The cruise lines will not choose to upgrade you because they are feeling nice or because you are a Lord, Doctor, Lady or have cruised 500 days on board with them already. Basically if it benefits the ‘CRUISE LINE’ in any way shape or form you may get bumped up to the next grade. Simples…..

For example if you have booked the leading balcony cabin on a cruise, and the cruise line need to release more cabins at a new promotional rate they may bump you up a few categories to enable them to release a new promotion at a new price.

So if you are lucky to get an upgrade on your cruise my advice is to smile and accept it politely, but don’t think you were chosen because it’s you Anniversary or your Birthday, your name has just been in the right place at the right time for the cruise line to benefit yet again……
