Roaming Ruth's Travels

Hurricane season is upon us again

Hurricane season is upon us again and it seems that the damage and disruption is getting a regular occurrence at this time of year.
Travel plans have been disrupted again for many with passengers cruises arriving later than scheduled and having to change flights and travel arrangements.
It does bring home the importance of booking a package with atol protection because if you book everything separately you would be in a situation of having to try and deal with all of this yourself and possibly incurring a lot of extra expense.

The best time to go to the Caribbean is November-April. The temperatures don;t vary much throughout the year but it is less humid and more importantly not hurricane season. It is often cheaper to go September/October though so if you are happy to take the risk you make get a better deal.
The benefit of being on a cruise ship is that the captain can make the decision to change the itinerary and divert to somewhere not affected.
A much better option than a land holiday where you don;t have many options.

My thoughts go out to the lovely people who have lost far more than a holiday. They are losing their homes and possessions and in some cases even loved ones.

The travel industry do pull together and do their best to help with aid and cruise ships have even been used to evacuate people to safety.
Lets hope the support continues to help these people get on with their lives.
