A lovely new addition for MSC

So the Grandiosa is finally here and has made herself known in Southampton.

I had the pleasure of spending overnight on board along with many of MSC’s guests and i have to say i honestly thought she is a brilliant addition to the fleet.

Having experienced the Magnifica before i had something to compare this ship to and i really felt that MSC had stepped up their game.

I stayed in a Bella Balcony cabin on deck 9 cabin 9209. The cabin was very spacious, plenty of storage space. Wasn’t used to getting quite a few hangers in the wardrobes usually i need to bring some spare. Usually i can feel cramped in the shower cubicle but this one was a lovely size. Great balcony size. All of the cabins on this ship feature a ZOE which works like Alexa.

They had opened quite a few cabins up for us to see and have a look around.

Cabin 12008 Duplex Suite –

Cabin 12010 Aurea Suite –

Cabin 11124 Adapted cabin –

Cabin 11042 Interior –

Cabin 11010 Interior Studio for singles –

Cabin 11287 Balcony for families –

Cabin 11002 Oceanview for families –

A couple of little touches on the ship i thought were really handy. To access the lift it is a touchscreen, you press what floor you wanted and it shows you which lift is activated for you.

I didn’t have to wait more than a few seconds but i’m sure you don’t want to watch me waiting for the lift.

And the other thing was in the buffet restaurant, the Market Place Cafe, they had a bell on the tables so you can signal for a waiter to take your drink order. I hadn’t come across this before on cruises.

Overall she has 19 bars and lounges to choose from so plenty of places to access your drinks package. The drinks packages are definitely worth purchasing in advance as these can save you money vs buying on board.

My allocated restaurant was the Purple Crab. Beautiful dining room and very friendly service from the staff. To say how full it was i would say we weren’t waiting very long. This was based on the 6.30 dining. The MSC staff couldn’t tell who were agents and who were customers so i didn’t feel treated any differently. I had a lovely meal and as usually couldn’t finish it.

Deck 6 Leornado Da Vinci deck was definitely one of the highlights of this ship. A Stunning promenade with a barreled digital ceiling which can really make you feel like your walking down and Italian street. Here you can shop, dine in a specialty restaurant, drink in an English style pub, the atmosphere here is great.

I also managed to squeeze in a visit to the Sportcomplex. They have a huge sports court here but i was more interested in the VR Maze and the F1 simulator. Make sure you book in for the F1 simulator as it’s quite popular and you could be queuing a while, especially on sea days.

The F1 simulator was $12 and the VR Maze was $15. Both were a little shorter than i would have liked but the F1 simulator was really cool, and quite hard I’m surprised oi stayed on the track for most of it.

I was also invited to a preview show for Cirque Du Soleil At Sea. This is held in the Carousel Lounge on deck 7. Great seating in there and i really enjoyed the show to say it was produced at sea for the ship. Make sure you book in for this as there will be a lot of demand for it. You can book this before you travel.

Plenty to appeal for couples on this ship but it also seemed fantastic for kids. Brilliant play areas for younger children including Lego and Duplo, Teen area for the older kids and great access to the water-slides and pool area for the kids at the back.

Although i forgot my swimming gear i did take a shine to the Safari Bar and Pool. It felt very relaxed in there great place to chill.

All in all i enjoyed my time on-board and would definitely sail with this class of ship from MSC.

Have you sailed MSC before? Have you tried their new ships like the Bellissima?
